Today, the conventional methods in production for separating the conductive and semi-conductive layers into stripes for the monolithic serial interconnection in a solar module are laser and mechanical scribing. Laser machining guarantees the highest efficiency and precision by far.
Laser structuring (laser scribing)
In laser scribing the laser forms small channels around a few 10 µm to make optimal use of the substrate space. The high selectivity of this ablation process avoids any damage to the layer or glass beneath.
The process steps of generating the separate cells between the surface coating steps are referred to as P1, P2 and P3. To increase productivity multiple strips are structured simultaneously in one production step.
